My fan sounds like its blowing hard on high but air flow seems to be restricted some. I have noticed a sound of the fan hitting leaves in the past. I just don't know how they get in there. Any help on how to get them out. It still cools good but air flow is nice when the temperture is close to 100.

Thanks in advance.

Thanks a lot. I was looking at it today and thought that might be the way in. I was looking behind the glove box, it looked clean. Will I be able to get a shop vac. in there?
Thanks,
Johnny
Some time ago my friends 80 something Bronco 2 caught fire because his ac/heater fan was full of leaves. we were out wheeling when it happened, luckily I had a fire extingishure iin my jeep.
I dont have a ranger to compare to but my 81 f-100 was a breeze to remove and clean out,, if you go under the clove box you will have to remove a lot of compenents that are not easy to remove ,, I wld go for thr fan motor housing first,,, you might have to go to auto zone and get a manuel to figure out whch is the easiest way ,,,good luck
The debris will be plastered up against the AC evaporator.
Removing the blower motor might allow you to get to some of the debeis, but it would be better the remove the blower motor and then remove the side of the evaporator case.
The debris breaks down in the case and gets sucked into the fins on the nice wet evaporator. It takes more than a shop vac to get it clean. Simple Green and a strong spray of water repeated two or three times will usually do the trick.
Thanks for the replies,
ISRX101: does taking off the side of the evapoator housing mean I have to take the housing off first and breaking down the system? It looks to me like the housing is bolted to the firewall and the fan is mounted to it. I have a manual on CD but it won't work with this new computer 64 bit vista .

The right side of the case (closest to the motor) should come off without having to remove the entire case.
I've usually got the system evacuated and the accumulator and lines removed at this point. I don't know if you can do it without disconnecting the lines, but the job will be much easier if you do.
Count yourself lucky. Many vehicles require removing the instrument panel and entire MVAC case just to clean the evaporator.
Well I took out the fan. I had half of an oak tree in front of the evaporator. They were all dry but packed in tight. I took the right side of the housing off, it gave me just enough room to loosen the leaves. I carefully used a short boxed end wrench to break them loose. Shop vac sucked them out. Evaporator was clean no muck or anything. I guess my luck hasn't run out yet. BTW the air is nice and strong.
