I changed oil in my truck probably about 2 weeks ago.I put in some 15W 40 Rotella. Changed the crankcase breather, air and fuel as well. It sat for about a week after that now I'm getting a slight tapping noise from the engine. Could it just be the oil pump or could it be something worse. 77 F-150 400 C6 2wd
All the time from what I can tell, my exhaust is to loud to see if it does it during acceleration. I thought I heard it last time I drove it, but after it warmed up good it seemed to have stopped.
What oil were you running before? rotella 15w-40 or some other weight/brand? like fmc said you really need a mechanical gauge to know what actually is going on, the factory gauge is just a guess at best.

Before the Rotella it was running Trop Artic 15W-40. I don't know how quick I'll be able to get a mechanical gauge on there but I'll do my best. Can I use the existing sending unit?
Would it really be that restrictive to the point it causes tapping?
Lifter tap, correct? It's normal them for them to tap slightly for a few seconds at startup. But anything more, I'd be concerned.
I get all kinds of startup noises whenever there is a Fram filter on. I even refuse to put a Fram on the crappiest vehicle I own. I use the Motorcraft FL-1A. They are only a dollar more than the Fram, and it's a much better filter.
