from what i gather, if you change out the fuel pump and get a larger micron fuel filter as if to run biodiesel in the 6.4 and the dpf is removed. i THINK key word THINK you can run a mixture of low sulfur stuff with biodiesel.

last winter a guy that i work with and myself started making our own biodiesel and i know the 6.4 will run a 75% ULSD 25% biodiesel mix because we did it last winter when diesel was high priced. i am too scared to try a stronger mix or anything else. we were making biodiesel for 90 cents per gallon.

BIG warning in your Owner's Manual about Low Sulfur Diesel and the 6.4 engine. Pizo electric injectors.

Well I took the truck in and they said that my downpipe is split in half!!!! that's why it has been smoking from under the cab when it goes into regen. So then they took a look at the transfer case since I am having a problem when I put it in 4x4 it makes a loud clunking sound, they told me my transfer case is SHOT and needs to be replaced, here is the great part, I bought the truck used with 57,000 mi on it, so they said it would be a good idea to purcase the extended warrenty to cover the drivetrain, well I just found out that what I bought does not cover the transfer case!!!!! it is just for the motor, so I am out $2,500.00 bucks, I am not very happy with Ford right now since I purcased this truck because Ford bought back my 03 due to problems with the engine and drivetrain. Now I feel like it is starting all over again! I hope that after this I don't have any issues, but the truck only has 66,000 mi on it and the friggin transfer case and downpipe are already being replaced, makes you wonder if Ford is even worth it.

Sorry to hear about your troubles c dogg. At least your 6.4 is working right and you found out what the issue was. About the transfer case, can you recall anything that may have caused it to fail? You may have gotten bitten by the previous owner or the dealership on that. Could have been bad when you bought it.

I definatley think it was bad when I got it, I only used it a few weeks ago and that's when I noticed the noises. I called the dealer and they are going to try and get Ford to help out, hopefully they will or I am out of luck and will be stuck with the bill. I appreciate the info ruschejj, that's what made me insist that they needed to check out the regen cycle and that is how they found the crack in the downpipe. It kind of pisses me off that I told them about it before and they said that it was normal, so you letting me know really helped out, thanks.

Ruschejj to the rescue again!!! Good work.

Just a note: Half of the dealers out there don't know what the hell they are doing and will use the "That's normal" excuse. Don't settle for it!!! Make em' fix it!!! We pay to much for these trucks to be treated like hog slime.

Question

I habe hade my 2008 since April 1 2009. I now have 6300 miles and I have not had a regen that I am aware. No white smoke, noe loss of power and no dash notice. Does that seem normal or should I have that checked. Any ideas?

sonofafordman,

Welcome to FTE!
You may need the latest PCM flash. While the truck is in regen it should display the message "cleaning exhaust filter" the entire time it is in regen mode. Regens vary but every 200 miles is quite common.

I do not lose power while my truck is in regen only fuel mileage.

Wow Seems Like I am way over due. I will take it into the dealer and see what they have to say. I just had my first service (oil change) thought that would be an part of the check. Thanks
