So we filled up as we left the house yesterday, empty and no trailer, drove about 2 miles and got on the freeway. Cruise control set at 70, we ran until we were down to 1/4 of a tank. Filled back up, got back on the freeway, cruise at 70 and at 3/4 tank it went into regen. At that time we averaged 16.5 mpg.
After regen I reset the the monitor and averaged 20.5 mpg! Made one more fuel stop, and by then were out of the flat lands of MN, IA and MO and hit the hills of AR. Even with pulling hills and the stop and go I averaged 18.5.
Hand calculated was only about .2 mpg off. What a difference a really good regen makes! Makes me want to gut the exhaust.
Because you were already on the road and at speed.
Next time leave it alone and see what you get for the overall trip, including before, during and after the regen. That would be your overall mpg for the trip.
I doubt the 200 yards to the freeway on ramp affected the mileage in a 250 mile non-stop freeway trip, but I did reset it before the regen while at speed and it stayed at 16.5.
I really don't care about the overall mileage, what I was trying to point out is that after regen it improved by 4 miles per gallon.
