C-6 trans question ???

I have a 82 F150 4x4 with a C-6 and a BW-1345 when my truck is cold the trans goes into drive just fine but when cold and go into reverse it hesitates aprox 20-25 sec and then sounds like a bad u-joint ( the u-joints are new so no problems there ) and when i give it some gas it shudders in reverse. Now when the trans is hot it seems to slip on an incline from 1st to 2nd and reverse it hesitates and then it feels like a manual trans when someone is riding the clutch I have tp give it alot of gas just to back up alittle could this problem be the band needs adjustment ?? I had someone tell me the C-6 is known for the band needing adjustment. i am going to be changing the fluid and filter this weekend but if the band is easily adjusted I want to do it all at the sametime. Plus the company who rebuilt the trans before I bought it they put an extra inline filter on the trans lines. Also when the trans is hot it stinks like it is burning not a clutch type smell just like really hot grease.
does anyone know what this might be?????

C-6 trans question ???

What color is your trans fluid? If it is brown and smells, you might need more then a fluid change and band adjustment.

C-6 trans question ???

Reddish gray fluid means you have metal shavings in it, might as well kiss this trans goodbye

C-6 trans question ???

ok I changed the trans fluid and filter 1) the trans filter that was in there was for a 2wd 2) the inline filter that the company who rebuilt the trans was plugged full 3) in the pan there wasn't a magnet so I put one in from a computer hard drive which is really strong. 4) in the pan was clutch, clutch , and more clutch the pan was just covered with black sludge. i adjusted the band and it still hesitates into reverse and shudders when warm in reverse now the torque converter is knocking. what could cause this?? does anyone have any idea

C-6 trans question ???

If the converter is not tight to the flywheel it could cause it the make a knocking sound. As far as the reverse problem is the trans beyond warranty?? If you pitch a bitch to may either get a free rebuild or a refund. Oh yeah by the way, was the inline filter the iol filter style or did it more resemble a fuel filter??

C-6 trans question ???

the inline filter resembled a fuel filter and I called the rebuilder of the trans. They were nice enough to have it stamped on the trans the jerk i talked to at the shop said it is out of warranty and stated the inline filter was mandatory in case any left over debri was in the line going to the radiator the torque converter bolts are tight but i believe the vent on the trans might be plugged up
