Alright, So I'm 16 and been looking for a '78 or '79 F-150 for a while. I finally foun one for $800. It's a '79 hi-boy. It does not have any body damage, just rust in the usual spots (but not terrible.) The frame isnt bent or rusted through or any of that crap.
The truck has faded paint, rebuilt engine/tranny, and some mods but needs new shocks. The truck isnt in great conition (of course) but you could describe it as an easy restorable project. I dont have pics, but does this sound like a fair deal? An don't worry, I'd take it to a mechanic an have it inspected.
ANY THOUGHTS WILL HELP!!!! I NEED TO REASSURE MY PARENTS!!!
My bad about the highboy. I will try to get pics ASAP. Btw, sorry if I come accorss as just another kid wasting your time (not sarcasm), I am really interested in this truck though and want to own one.

I can appreciate that. lol
Not trying to discourage you, but why are your parents against it, fuel mileage, they dont want you in a 4x4, or maybe just the fact that its a 30 yr old truck and could be unreliable and epensive due to that? I cant say that I'd want my kid having one for a daily driver for these reasons. On the other hand, they are much, much easier to work on than any of todays trucks, and they are tanks when it comes to who's vehicle will hold up in a fender bender.
Depending on the motor, you could have between (I'm guessing) 8 to 18 mpg. Any thing above the 351's are harder on fuel than say, a 300 inline six cyl. the 300 six is one tough motor, you wont have speed, but you will have torque. Insurance for a teen, is expensive enough without it being a 4x4 so they may be conserned about that. and like any 30yr old vehicle, they require a lot of steady upkeep.
Like I said, I can appreciate you wanting one of these trucks, I grew up with one in our family, and they are my favorite year other than the 30's models. Good luck either way with your parents.
montana_highboy........... check out my garage and see what I bought for $850.00.............actually I bought it for $800.00, but because I missed a payment I gave the guy an extra $50.00...........
Yeah, I'm gonna get pics on my way to work today. And about the parents, the main reason they don't want me driving a 30 year old truck is the fact that it WILL ned repairs. But the whole point I want this one is because it's not like something that would nee a complete restoration, I want to teach myself to work on it. On top of that I got my escape from my parents (just had to finnish paying the loan for them) and I've already one more in repairs than I paid for the car.
And montana_highboy, no $800 doesn't get you a lot around here, this is the one exception. I live in upper michigan. The truck was originally 2 grand, but the guy got laid off and needs to sell it ASAP. I doubt I'll see a deal like this (in my area) for a while.
These trucks are very easy to work on, even if you have to put 50 bucks a month into repairs it's far cheaper than a 500 a month truck payment for a new rig.
