Air Conditioning Mods - Consolidated Reference Materials
I had some extra time today, so I read through the A/C mod threads in plans of doing them to ym own truck very soon. There is a lot of excellent information. However, for someone who wants to do the mod, reading through all the numerous posts can be very daunting and can sometimes be discouraging for someone who simply wants to just know how to do it.
Therefore, after pouring through the threads and links on the A/C mods (both the Heater Valve Mod and the Compressor Shim Mod), I've done the following:
- created screen shots from critically informative posts,
- organized the information into a logical flow,
- filtered out the "I did it too..." type of comments,
- added a few simplified summary comments here and there,
- I went through my shop manual and included diagrams of the Vacuum System, and THEN
- compiled all the condensed info into a couple of PDF files which are attached below.
I tried to trace the info back to original sources as much as I could to give credit where credit is due. Just to make sure that anyone who gets the PDF file can see ALL the info in the original threads, I also included links to the threads from which I took snapshot images of posts.
Personally, I think the documents below are simpler to follow because they don't include the non-instructive or repetitive comments. I filtered those comments out not because they aren't important, don't have value, or for any other reason other than to just create a document that is "Just the facts, ma'am... just the facts."
I would like to do the same with other Mod/Repair threads that are linked in the RHN site (or the old 7point3.com site), but this is obviously a very time consuming effort and I'll just sort of do them as I can find the time to do so.
I would appreciate your input to see if I'm on the right track here, and especially if you folks think it's worth the time and effort for someone other than myself.

Pete, simply, three words...You the Man...i was already planning on doing these mods and was a little confused and started letting my lack of confidence in my ability to do it right stop me from buying the parts today, but, as always, you, and every other FTE guru have got my back
Timeline: I was gonna buy the parts at 6 pm today, chickened out...hehehe
11:45 pm, same night, Pete posts this, absolutely astonishing thread that
explains it all...
9 am tomorrow, my butt will be getting these parts and doing this mod.
Thanks a bunch Pete. I got no reps to give just yet, but you're in my thoughts brother.

I looked at our two routes, and they don't actually meet up with each other until Chattanooga, TN. I'm planning on leaving from work on Thursday evening and arriving late Thursday night. Then I'll also be coming back Saturday in time to be back in B'ham by about 5-6pm. My 23rd anniversary is that Sunday, so I HAVE to be home before late Saturday.
When are you headed up?
