Ok well it has done it to me too many times. Of course this only happens when it is hot outside but it seems that when I drive for a little bit then shut off the truck for only a few minutes the complete AC dash display doesn't even light up at all. After a few hours or a few starts it kicks on like nothing has happened. It has zero power to the unit. I talked to the dealer about this about a year ago the first time it happened and he knew what it was and said it was $400 to fix it. I was wondering if this has happened to anyone here.
Since the AC went out on my car last week as well as my house. I am broke this week as those other items cost me $2,000. If it's $400 at the dealer I am sure it is a $100 part with some labor added to it.
The same thing has happened to me twice. Someone here told me this is not a new issue with the climate control. To get the display and the a/c back and working, cycle the headlight switch. I'm not sure if it was with the truck running or off. But try both of these procedures.
Of course now it doesn't act up since I ask the question. For some reason its seems like a voltage issue. Ever since that last little episode now my A/C acts like it is on Auto mode and spins the fan real high up for as short as 1 second and as long as 30 seconds. Is this a related issue or a whole new set of problems?
I have an '04 Excursion w/the 6.0 PSD. This happened to me about 5 times while it was still under (extended) warranty. Never would replicate at the shop. Finally it happened when I was driving around on a hot day so I went straight to the shop, left the truck idling and grabbed a tech. He came out, looked at the dead panel and said, "yep, you need a new panel."
The panel itself was almost $500, then they had to reprogram something because the external temp sensor said it was 20* F outside in the summer in NC.
Anyway, not a cheap part, but it was an easy install. The only thing you prolly can't do yourself is reprogramming.
I have the exact same problem with my 2005 F350 Lariat. It has the Auto climate control and the fan goes nuts sometimes or the whole display goes dead. And it seems to only happen in the summer (its been doing this for a couple years now). If you get the proplem solved, I would apprieciate it if you could Email Me at "b.berger@shaw.ca", thanks and good luck
OK it finally did it again and cycling the headlights did the job. I think it took three cycles while the truck was running and it kicked right on. Hope this helps. Now my fan speed is still all over the place but I can live with that.
