I took my boat to the shop to have some welding done. I was half way home when I noticed that my battery warning light was on. I check the battery terminals and they look good and clean. What should I check next? 2003 F-250 7.3
When were you batteries last replaced? Has your truck been cranking over slowly lately. Heat is a major killer for batteries. you can take your batteries to a local auto parts store and have them load tested. If one is weak always replace both. If the batteries pass a load test the next test would be the alternator which your local auto parts store can also test.
Yep, Alt. all the way. Seen it way too many times. the added draw from the trailer was just enough to make it show. Fix it now or you will be left stranded and these beast are not easy to jump off when dead.

Be happy you got a light. My alt failed with no "Battery Light" indicator. I did notice my volt meter reading low and that led me to test my alt's output.
Hey, thanks guys for all the info. I will stop by the auto parts store and get it checked out tomorrow. I will let you know what I find out. When I seen the battery light come on the first thing I though was I need to get home and look at this site. I knew someone on here would be able to point me in the right direction. Thanks to all who replied and to FTE. Great Site.
My alternator didnt test bad ON the truck and they couldnt even test the beast on the bench. Manager said go put this new one on and if it works then youre good and if it doesnt bring it back in...win-win situation!
Well on my way to work I stopped by the local auto parts store and they tested the alt. and it checked bad. So after $233 and a little parking lot auto repair I was on way back to work with no battery light. I like to thank everyone for the helpful info and FTE for a great site. THANKS
