Has anyone tried the Banks TransCommand on a 4r100 or E4OD. If so, what are your thoughts about it. I am looking at installing it on on a 2002 F350 Diesel with a 4r100 auto in an attempt to lengthen the service life of the tranny for pulling heavy loads.
I bought this little purple box from ATG autotrans group for my E40D when I had one. It let you adjust the firmness of your shifts and that delay in TC lockup. It worked pretty good. I bought it through a tranny shop so I can't point you in a direction to get one.
I just installed it in my 2000 Expedition 4X4, 5.4, 4R100. It works great. The shifts are quick. The slushbox feeling is gone. The shifts are not like the old trans kits where the tranny would chirp the tires. If you didn't know the difference you would not know the transcommand was installed since it isn't rough or abrupt. I bought it for $225 ($245 with tax) at a local RV store. The installation took me about an hour in my garage. The tough part is reaching between the catalytic converter and trans to disconnect the wires in the connector.
Thanks. I have pretty much made up my mind that this is the way to go. Now if I can just keep the dealer from "re-hitting" my computer to de-tune it a bit to "save" the tranny, I will be happy.
The transcommand includes an extra module that you can plug into the box to bypass it completely when you take it into the shop or in the event the box goes haywire. You basically unhook the transcommand and plug the module into the harness which redirects the unaltered signals directly into the tranny.
