I have a 2004 f350 6.0. It has a rough idle and thick white smoke at idle but with no lack power. Could it be the egr? any help would be great it is very embarrassing and sounds like it wants to die.

I agree with Mark. My 2004 ran fine until it suddenly began pouring out white smoke upon startup. It never ran badly but smoked on startup for 5 minutes or so. I found out by trial that if I let the coolant pressure out of the degas bottle immediately upon shutting down it would not smoke on restart. That convinced me the egr cooler was bad. I eliminated the entire egr cooler/egr valve with a First Coast Diesel egr delete kit. If you search a little you will find several long posts by me and Joe Blow regarding this modification. I am extremely pleased with the results I achieved with it's installation. No more smoke and no more coolant loss.
