first project
hi i just recently purchased a 57 f 100 i am told that the motor is a 427 c/j i am speculative because he said it was out of a mustang and in my research have been told that ford never made a 427 mustang i am just looking for a place to start in authenticating the motor it has 3 deuces on it and the block is painted yellow i dont know if it came like that or if someone added the carbs and painted the block any info would be greatly appreciated sorry for the run on sentence

i was also told to run the numbers i have no idea of where to run them when i get them i was also told that a boat anchor is a boat anchor no matter what i pay for it my question is is where are the numbers located and where do i run them when i locate them

I'm not a Ford guy by any stretch of the imagination, but I've NEVER heard anyone call a 427 a boat anchor. I would say that as long as you can turn the engine over by hand it should be rebuildable. If it isn't, you can probably find another FE engine like a 390 for a reasonable price. That way it would just be a bolt-in.
I think the GT500s had 427 with 3 deuces, but I would imagine this guy would have sold it off to a restorer if it was one of those. But like I said, I'm not really a Ford guy.

They made a 428 and a 429 Cobra Jet. If you have a 427... holy crap. That engine is pure gold, check out it's history. Reguardless you may check with a place like Vintage Mustang Forums, there are people building original CJ cars and would pay more than you would think for that engine. Though they're close in ci, they are completely different engines, but they are all insainly awesome.

Gotta love Google...
Apparently there were a few Mustang (less than 50) GT500s produced with the 427 Cobra Jet cid Medium Riser engine, which had starred before in the AC Shelby Cobra 427 Mk III.
BUT...From what I have read, you have to ignore outside block castings for the CJ's I think some FE blocks have 427 cast on them, that is why.
You most likely have a FE engine if the seller was going by the casting numbers. This could be what you have. Check on the forum that Fomoko1 suggested.

Here is a pic of a FE tri power set up...look like yours?
Some other questions...is the distributor in the front or rear? If it is in the rear I am wondering if the yellow block and 3 dueces could be a Y block?
Maybe a y Block? note dist in back.
