Yesterday I lost power going about 50 mph head a loud almost blow out like tire blew out and couldn't get more than 30mph (pulling 8k lb. 5er) managed to get it home only about 4 miles away.
At home it idled just fine, no unusual noises, didn't find and fluid or air leaks just couldn't accelerate.
I did find rear air bag on one side flat don't know if that caused the noise or was it or already flat.
So back tracking I Pulled the VC off passenger side again and checked the connection - still good but the Ford clip wasn't al the way snapped. Put it back together and just happened to notice the the I/C tube lower on drivers side was not connected and the clamp was resting ON TOP of the rubber boot.
Any way put all back together ran like a champ. Question is Could the I/C blow off the boot and would that cause the low power situation ? Anything I need to be concerned about now? What is the I/C 's function?
Joe is right on the money! Mine did that all the time tell i did the ccv mod and cleaned all the IC tubes and install some nice new ones that Clay at riff raff performance sells. Problem solved! Good luck

Yes, that was the exact cause of the low power issue.

Check all the other intercooler boots. Might even be a good idea to take them off and inspect/clean them. There are 6 boots in total, 2 on the hot side, 2 on the cold side, and 2 at the intake plenums going to each head.

If you follow from the driver's side of the turbo (compressor side), that tube flows air from the turbo to the intercooler (hot side). Air passing through the intercooler is cooled down, then comes out the passenger's side (cold side) up and back to the top of the engine, then is split off to each head (intake plenums).
Powerstrokes are turbocharged, and the 99+ trucks were intercooled as well.
Hey guys Thanks, appreciate all the INSTANT answers. Wish I could THINK that fast let alone type!
Staying home this week end any way and just bought my wife a new outdoor dining canopy (works great for instant driveway garage-imagine that!!)
But that was the loud noise??
The loud noise was all the air being released when the boot blew off... think of the sound a balloon makes when it pops. Similar situation when the boot blew off... lots of air escaping.
