I recently bought a 1990 F150 4x4. I can get the transfer case to go into 4H real easy, but I cant even budge it around through Neutral and into 4L. So far I havent needed it, but I'm sure I will someday. Any ideas?
Couple of suggestions if you haven't already tried these, try with the engine off, also may try after you have "bumped" from forward to reverse a couple of times to try find the "sweet" spot for getting past neutral, or after backing up for a few feet to 20' or so. If you guys have lockout hubs, try with the hubs unlocked, can't think of any other tricks for right now other than try it going from 2-Hi quickly into 4-Hi then into 4-Low in one swift move, these help with the 205 when it gets contrary, although usually getting out of 4-Low (or out of netrual more often) is the problem, don't know if they will you help or not!
I had the same problem and when I swapped in a C6 for my 5 speed in my 1991 F150, I found out what the porblem was. With the BW1356 xfer case there is a cam and stop on the shifter so from 2h to 4h its a straight pull back, but to go to nuetral you need to pull to the drivers side and then back and then N to 4L you just pull back again.
What the problem is, is that this "cam" is in the shifter under the truck and if you don't use 4L alot it will rust and freeze. Try spraying some rust inhibator and see if that works. If not you have to take the shifter off, clean the parts and or sand that "cam" down.
