couldn't figure out how to post text and a pic in one post but i thought i would share this as i haven't really heard of anyone else doing this... but the edge fits perfectly inside the ash tray compartment if u remove the ashtray. i personally think it looks cheesy mounted on the dash even with the pod they supply. this way it's hidden unless i want to see it. just my two cents

If it's hidden all the time, then why even mount it anywhere? Just leave it unplugged.

I have the edge mounted on the dash for over 2 years with no break in yet (knock on wood). If the truck parks in bad area I will throw a black towel over it to cover it up.
I found myself looking at the readings quite a bit because I tow a trailer regularly and don't want the tranny to overheat. So mounting the edge in the ash tray area will not be my first choice.
This is just my 2 cents.

Please. Also, can you read it very well while driving? I like the idea of being able to leave it stealth when parked. Besides, my ash tray is not doing anything anyway.

With tinted windows, you can't even see mine unless you're specifically looking for it. considering it will only work on the 04-08 5.4's, it's not really a high theft item. Especially when they would have to start the vehicle, and load the stock PCM settings to use it on another truck. Me thinks everyone worried about having them stolen is paranooooooiiiiiiddddd.

I'm always up for tinkering. Besides, I live in the Houston area where the thieves are known for stupidity. By that I mean they will see something electronic, have no clue what it is and think it's worth the risk to break a window and be off with it.

Just last night the local NBC affiliate did a story on one of the new shopping areas here in League City because it had become a favorite of local car thieves. Remember, just because you're paranoid doesn't mean that they really aren't out to get you!

I agree...That wasn't directed at you....I just find it amazing how people DO think everyone is out to get THEIR Edge now and again. I approached my truck once as a thief would, but found the cars in fornt, back, and side to side were easier to look into while just walking by...Had I wanted to, I would have looped around and hit one of them....just sayin'...

It was simple.. the ashtray just pulls out and i drilled a hole in the back of the plastic piece that the ashtray fits in... Run the cord from the OBDII around the back of it and through the hole. I don't tow a trailer and really don't need to constantly monitor temps or anything, but it's nice to be able to look at it anytime i want rather than having to plug it in and unplug it all the time and I really didn't like the look of the pod that comes with it. Also, depending on where I am, I usually run 90 octane, but if it's not available I either bump up to 93 or am forced to use 87. Either way I like to change my timing to suit the fuel I'm burning, so this way the unit is always handy.

It's not hidden all the time... only when i close the ashtray. And I'm not worried about thieves. I just like a clean looking dash

So remove ash tray and drill into the back piece. Does the unit just slip in or did you place something on it so it didnt move. Does it fit tight?

fits perfectly.... have to push just a little to get it in all the way, but sits nice and flush so the compartment still closes and latches. and it's tight enough that it won't slide down or anything. no need to put anything behind/under it
