I bought my stock 2004 F250 5.4L 2wd a couple months ago and I really love it and like to add some aftermarket wheels to it . Recently saw a set of wheels forsale locally that I was interested in. The rim size is 22"x11". Offset is -24mm and backspacing is 5.06". Says it came off a 99 SD, but wondering if they are selling them because they having problems with the offset and backspacing in the 99-04 series. Will they fit my 2004? And if suspension is stock so how much of a lift would you think will be safe for this size rim?
There are several good threads with a lot of helpful information on this subject... wheel spacers, backspacing, what size wheels fit with stock height / leveling kits / lifts, etc. Not sure if any of them have addressed low profile wheels, but I would imagine you can just compare the O.D. and width of the tire to the off-road tires mentioned in the threads. I know the 99-04 have a different backspacing than the 05+. Wheels with the 99 back spacing will fit the 05+, while you would need a set of wheel spacers to go the other direction. Opinions on these seem to vary, but I've red few complaints if you already have the wheels with the wrong spacing. Considering the $300 or so most seem to spend on quality spacers, you could save the money and opt for a set of wheels that don't need them.
(I am shopping for wheel and tire packages as well, so keep me posted on what you find. I think I'll probably go with more of A/T wheel and tire.)
Also, if you're going to do any heavy towing or carry a load - check the load rating on the tires you're looking at. I believe E is recommended if you're going do either, but I would double check that.
Let me know if you find any retailers with deals on complete sets.
Anyone have luck ordering tires and wheels online? What about when they're already mounted and balanced like Tire Rack offers? Is it better to pay the difference to buy local in case you have any problems?
I only have internet access when I'm at work and I kicked myself after I left work for leaving out an important fact. The tires that are on the wheels now are 35's. Never had any experience in lifting and hoping someone with experience will chime in. Also the clearing issue with backspacing on the 99-04 series.
T8R - I've bought tires online before from ebay and tirerack with no issues. The shipping weight is where they'll get you so you have to compare local+tax vs. online+shipping. Some local shops include the mount and balance. If you looking for the best deal then I think local and used is the best. I've been glancing at the paper when I get the chance and thats where I found mine.
Those wheels should fit great with anything up to a 35x13.50 tire. I'm running 18x10 with 5" backspace and clear the springs by 3/4" and they stick out about 1/4" past the fender. Since those wheels are 1" wider with the same backspace, the center of your tire will be 1/2" further out.
Thinking about getting the Fabtech 6" for the lift. Think it'll be enough? Also I think I have the 3.73gears in the trans right now. Will I run into some problems down the road without regearing the trans?
35s you can run with just a 4" lift, some run with a levelling kit and some trimming. 3.73s will be okay for 35s as long as you don't do a lot of towing. It will put more strain on the tranny, but a lot of tranny life depends on how you treat it.
