I need to take the dash off my 98 Jeep Wrangler to replace the Evaporator Core when it cools down. Guarantee I'm gonna be sweating bullets at all the creeks.

as you can see, the dash comes off really easy. it was 1 handed.

the harder part is separating the connectors that plug into the varies controllers on the dash (e.g. the a/c, power station, foot pedal adjust, and so on)

+1 on that ^^^^^. My dash is laying in my back seat right now as I wire up my SIRIUS stuff. The dash is easily removed but the connectors are a PITA.

thanks for the writeup!

Sorry for resurrecting an old thread, but I found this most helpful! Just finished installing my PIE interface on a 2006 F350, and it was a breeze. Well, except for the part of me leaving my interconnect splices at the office and not realizing until I had it halfway done. I ended up just snipping the pink wire and jury-rigging up a butt-splice I had on hand. Works like a champ! I bought an audio-in jack and installed it right by the power point. It is super handy just to plug in my mp3 player, phone, sirius, or whatever I want. Thanks again!

A question: Does using the PIE device provide benefits other than being able to use the AUX button on the radio?

The Sirius unit I was given came with an inline FM modulator thing that looks similar to the PIE device (connects Sirius to radio via FM OUT jack on Siruis unit). I'm guessing the inline device originally came with the Sirius installation kit but am unsure as I got Sirius as a hand-me-down.

The satellite radio modulators don't work well in the few I've seen. The audio quality is marginal. The PIE module allows you to plug your satellite receiver (or other accessory) directly into the factory radio. I put on in my 06 F350 recently and love it. My dad just put one in his 06 F250 and is very happy with it. We both got ours' on ebay from a seller that offered them with Ipod cables for $65 each to our door.

as far as holding up is concerned, my PIE adapter is still working flawlessly.

well I splurged and removed the stock radio. If anyone wants a PIE adapter for $40 shipped let me know.

truck was broken into and they took the aftermarket head unit.

i guess I am going back to the factory 6-disc and a new PIE.

Thanks!

Thanks a million for putting the photos and step-by-step instructions on here. I"m going to install a Parrot handsfree system in my 06 F350 and needed to figure out how to get to the back side of the radio...and this was just what I was looking for! Looks like this project will be a snap!

Sorry to hear about your truck getting broken into....was it the old "screwdriver under the plastic handle" trick??? Stupid Fords.....SOOOOO easy to break into. My F350 has been broken into that way here in Atlanta. Has anyone had good luck with the "Jimmi Jammer"??? I"ve seen it but haven't tried it yet.....curious if it actually works or not.

Radio / dash

Thanks again for posting the step-by-step. I installed a Parrot handsfree device today and the dash and radio removal were a SNAP! Worst part was getting the connections loose on the climate control switches...PITB!

i'm glad this was useful!

ya the truck was broken into twice via the screwdriver in the door lock method. I have since replaced the front driver's side door handle with a rear driver's side handle. i've been toying with the idea of jimmy jammers, but my alarm should also keep the unwanted out...i hope.

Let me add my thanks. I installed an adapter in my '06 F-205 this afternoon in about an hour. After reading your post, I was able to do it without completely removing the dash. I did need to take the plugs off the headlight switch in order to get the dash to pull away far enough to get the radio out. After that. piece of cake!!

Thanks again!!!
