hello fellas

i guys..have been ghosting this forum forever, drooling over all your rigs...finaly with a new job, and people unloading thier toys due to the economic times...i have made 2 purchases hopeing to build them into one truck...
i have only a couple pics right now, my camera is dead..but i purchased a 78 f150, 351m,c6..dana 44 front 9 inch rear, short box..the truck is solid, PO lost interest..has a new front clip including bumper..motor is tired and smokes..but it came with anouther motor trans n transfer case thats low miles..my second purchase was a 77 f250 with a 460,c6 and divorced transfer case, closed knuckle d44 front d60 rear..motors fresh rebuild he made 2 passes at a local mud pit with 44 in boggers before blowing the front end...i dont have that truck home yet, its being delivered next week..i was wondering what it takes to convert my d44 to 8 lugg? a friend has a d70 rear i can get cheap...also, are the frames on these things the same? will the 460 frame mounts transfer between the trucks? i plan on puting the 460/divorced case combo in the 78....also the 78 has no mirrorors, and i hate the stock ones...any suggestions?

cheers

Rich

If you are planning to run 44s on a D44, don't waste your time, go for a d60 or stronger. As for the 8lug conversion, you probably just need an entire hub assembly from an f250.

Nice looking rig welcom to the 73-79 truck world. Well if you want to convert the D44 to 8 lug what are the plans of the 9 inch rear? Or is this why you mentioned the D70 rear? Maybe take the F250 and use that body if its nicer the F150 has coil springs in the front leafs be easier to do bolt in mods.

the body is whipped on the 77..i have kicked around putting the 78 body on the 77 frame..are the mounts in the same spots? i dont have the 77 home yet to check for myself. the frame on the 78 is solid, i will explore the option once the other truck is home..yea, for the rear i plan on running the d70.

mounts should be the same only difference is you said one is short bed other probably a long bed. I would run the 77 F250 only drive train issue is the busted D44 I would find a open D44 or D60. As to the 460 going into the 78 should mostly bolt up may have to drill some holes to get the cross members lined up.

welcome to the dentside area, and nice rig! SoupCan™

nice to see another 4x4 short box, personally its my most favorite setup of any truck, hence its what i have!

what size of tires do you have on it in that picture? they look like 31"? maybe? or are they bigger?

also what kind of lift does it have? i think my sits up a little higher in the front than yours, hard to tell from pictures mind you,

here is my specs, mind you all the lift is in the suspension, no body lifts,

i know from the floor to the top rear wheel well edge, is 41"

the floor up too the top edge of the front wheel well is 37"

plus the 31" tires add about 1" when i finally put them on the truck,

so keep us updated on your truck, and more pictures!
