my 79 F150 has a door that, from what I can tell is out of alignment. I dont think its the bushings. Does anyone know how to align these things properly? Do I have to take the fender off to do it, or can I just open the door and go in that way? my 86 T-bird has the same problem if anybody knows about them as well. lol Not sure if the fords were built the same way in this aspect or not. lol
I align my doors with it all together. use some wood shims between the panels to make your gaps the same and keep from chipping your paint. You can use a jack to help support the weight while you tighten the bolts. Make sure that the post that your door latches to is in good condition or you are wasting your time aligning. It is really easy but you must have patience and go slow.
On the hinge itself, where the hinge mounts to the cab adjusts your front to back center of the door and where the hinge meets the door is where you adjust in and out. It can be done with the fender on for the most part.
I used my cherry picker to get my doors on and off. I wrapped cardboard around the top of the doors and looped the chains through there. It made quick work of the whole thing. It's really easy to work the bolts when you don't have to support the door at all.
