Anyone know of one? I am in the mid-cities/Ft Worth Texas. I am trying to trouble shoot this but I am thinking reading the codes might be the next step. Its summer boating season, this thing has to be fixed
I'm South of DFW right off of 35W. Joe has his new fancy gauge that can pull codes, or I have a scanner we can hook up to your truck. If you don't hook up with Joe, I might be able to look at it for you.
LOL -- Yeah, but mine is installed. I need an OBD II extension cable or something to read other trucks without pulling mine out. I would do it in this case though, just to see what's going on here. Something is really weird for sure.
There were changes to the motor made half way through the production of the 99 model. You'd have to look at the tag in your door and find the date of manufacture.
It really doesn't matter for this issue whether it's an early or late 99, I was just curious.
Chris and I can read codes, but dim warning lights scare me. That's really bazaar, and could be a PCM problem, or wiring issues, or even problems caused by water getting in there. It hasn't been wet has it? This is a tough one.
No, never been wet. This morning, it started the first time. Then it died. Since then it starts and runs perfectly. I drove it up to Autozone because I heard they can read the codes. The guy hooked up is reader and it has no codes. I don't buy it. I think his reader wont read the codes on this truck. I've been inspecting the wiring from the relay box to the batteries...etc...nothing looks wierd or cracked or anything.
I checked the prices, the PCM is 250.00 and the fuel pump is 125.00 or so. The PCM may be the problem, but I hate to replace it only to find out that didnt fix it. There has to be a code in there somehwere.
AZ code readers normally don't have the ability to read PowerStroke codes. I have a little running around to do today -- maybe we can hook up and see if my gauge reads anything. What's your schedule? And where abouts are you in Mid-Cities? I can run down there today...

This is a clue to the cause of the problem. Most likely corrosion on any number of connections somewhere or both batteries are shot. Or the alternator is bad. Or both. Or all of the above.
