I just rebuilt my '49 Ford F-1's 3 speed floor shift trans and now it is stuck in second gear. I took off the shifter and tower and it looks as if the synchro assembly has seperated and the assembly will not slide back where it should be. Does anyone know what could have caused this? I don't want to pull the trans and tear it down to only have it happen in the first 2 miles again like it did the first time.
Tore open the trans...AGAIN. Turns out the new synchro assembly has "seperated" and is causing the problem. I wonder if it was something I did/didn't do, or problem with the assembly.
I don't think it has stops. The "outside" of the synchro assembly is slinding to the rear of the trans, while the "inside" is staying put. The "inserts" are exposed after shifting into second....if that helps any in your diagnosis.
