Alright guys I finally got my Detroit TrueTrac for the rear of my truck, I thought maybe I could install this but Im hearing differently, I thought they would just bolt right in after sliding the axles out. Anyone installed one or know how they go in? Should I just have a shop do it? Thanks for any help!
Edit: I mixed up the model you have. If you already read what I previously posted, disregard it.
I think the TrueTrac is a full case LSD. You would be better off to just let someone do the work for you. Messing it up even just a tiny bit could be disasterous.

I installed a TrueTrac when I did my gears. You aren't messing with the pinion, so all you need to worry about is getting the backlash correct and checking to make sure the mesh pattern is descent. Also, you must get the carrier bearing preload correct, so install .0015-.0020 more shim than when the carrier slides in easily.

You already lost me, I better just have it done. LOL.
You can order Randy's Ring and Pinion differentials book, it explains everything in great detail and is about $23. That was my resource in changing gears for the first time. The only special tools you need is a press to install the carrier bearings (get new ones). The rest is just shimming the left and right side of the carrier to get the proper bearing preload and backlash.
