Re-doing whole system, help?

I use to have a 12" Rockford Fosgate P3 Shallow mount and then I bought a ext cab F150 and got a 15" kicker compvx, but now I am selling the f150 . So I am stuck with a single cab truck and the 12" p3 hits hard, but not nearly as hard as I want it to. What would be the best set up as far as sound quality and just getting more wattage in general? I want as much possible for a single cab truck. So if you guys please could give me some suggestions of some different set ups that I could use that would be GREAT!!

Did you see the thread about mounting subs under the cab?

Unless you plan to do some work to the interior your limited on space, mounting depth in particular. However, where I would start is with sound deadening. Pull the carpet and trim, and apply as much as you can afford. I don't want to start a contest over who makes the better mat, but cover as much of the sheet metal as you can, and maybe go two layers deep. Don't forget to do the doors as well. Where this will help is in containing the sound, the less that comes in is less your stereo has to over come.

Step 1:
Make up your mind which one do you want. Do you want:
  1. Sound Quality
  2. Just getting more wattage in general
  3. Hits hard

Getting more wattage (RMS) in general.

Buy a larger amplifier. Speakers don't create wattage.

alright, thank you. But speakers do have a limit to how many watts they can handle. and i wanted to get more in general. okay so what i was thinkin about doin was just gettin another rockford punch p3 shallow mount so i would have 2 12"s in seperate boxes and then getting a kicker zx1000.1 amp or zx750.1. how would that sound compared to just one 12" p3?

You don't mention what amplifier you currently have, so I cannot make a comparison of wattage.

I do not currently have an amplifier. I would be getting either a zx100.1 or a zx750.1. I might possibly get a rockford amp since they are rockford subs (about an 800W rms amp), but i'll probably stick with the kicker amps.

So. Yes. This would add wattage.

Okay, with the sub does the box make a fairly large difference in sound quality? I have a p3 that i bought from best buy in a custom tuned box, but it was $300.00, and I don't feel like buying another one at that price. I can buy the shallow mount sub itself for about $100.00 and then a shallow mount box for approx $60.00 that is the same size, but a different box. So would I be better off doing something like that or buying a box that is made 2 12" subs and putting the two rockfords in there or how i was going to do it, having a seperate box per sub?

Why are you asking about speakers? Your goal is to get more wattage.

My nickel (adjusted for inflation), sealed boxes sound cleaner. There isn't much fancy about a sealed box, it just has to fit and have at least the minimum volume of air for the speaker. As long as you run the speakers in parallel or in series, you can use a single box that isn't isolated. If you run them in stereo, you'd be further ahead to have isolated boxes.

I would suggest looking at the amps. If one is 1ohm stable, getting a pair of 2ohm speakers in parallel would put you at 1ohm load on the amp.

Okay I gotcha.

As far as amps go I was going to get a rockford, but I have been doing some research and wow there expensive. I need a amp that will put out about 800 rms and one that can be hooked up to two 12" p3s. So how much of a difference does the name brand to name brand sub and amp make a difference? Because I can get a 1000W RMS kicker amp quite a bit cheaper than a rockford.

With some parts you get what you pay for. The first thing I would do is figure out what ohms the speakers are available in. This will make amp selection a little easier. If they only come in 2ohm, you will get either 1 or 4 ohm with a pair. IF they come in 4ohm, then you can go 2 or 8ohm with a pair.

The only visible tale tail I know of is the fusing. 800watts at 13v is ~62 amps. Because amp's aren't 100% efficient, you need to have 100-135a worth of fusing on the amp. Then it's just specs.
