Alright guys. To answer your usual first question, yes I have combed through the forums, but haven't found exactly what I am looking for. I am planning on doing a Cummins swap, of sorts. What I had in mind, however, was putting my Ford on a 3/4 ton frame and all, as opposed to a 12v into my F150. I came across many threads pertaining to long beds and crew cabs/super cabs, but mine is a short bed single cab 4x4. Would it be done the same way? Would it fit on the dodge frame? Could anyone point me toward a forum/thread with the info I need. As far as what I want to swap onto, it would be a 2nd gen, single cab, 4x4 3/4 ton with a 12 valve. Thanks in advance.
With your truck being a short bed I think a body swap to a dodge would complicate things. That's if your set on keeping your short bed. I don't believe dodge ever made a single cab short bed cummins. I may be wrong but I don't think they did. In order to keep your original bed you would have to shorten the dodge frame a bit. Dodge did make 4x4 regular cab short bed trucks but only in gas and only in 1/2 ton. So an axle swap would be required to support the extra weight of the cummins. If your wanting to swap your body to a dodge frame my opinion would be to get a regular cab dodge 3/4 ton cummins 4x4 and find an 8' dent side bed to put on it along with your cab and front end. Hope this makes sense
Where there is a will there is a way. Honestly, you do NOT need 3/4 ton or larger running gear if you do not plan on turning up the Cummins too much. The D60 rear in the 3/4 ton trucks is not any stronger than a Ford 9". You also do not need a D60 front end for the "extra weight" of the Cummins. The Cummins is only a few hundred pounds more than whatever engine you may have in your truck. Hardly a difference for an axle housing the sees dynamic forces on the road. I ran mine for years with some hard pounding on a D44. I just happened to stumble across a D60 front to swap in or I would keep going with the D44.
Put the engine in your truck and if you want to beef up the drive train you can get some aftermarket axles and 3rd members for your 9".
Putting it on a Dodge frame would likely be very difficult. Power Nation on Spike did project super dually and it took a lot of fabrication to graft the Ford to the Dodge frame.
