most likely you will need to replace your headlight switch. It is a major pain to install so when you replace the switch do the headlight relay upgrade as well. There should be someone who has done the upgrade coming along to tell ya how.

.
i have done the mod its really easy.the best way to explain it is use one of the headlight wiring harness's to cut the high low beam wires and use the wires as signal wires to a relay.i have a wiring diagram in my gallery if you want to take a look
Not trying to hijack the thread but what kind of relays did you use? Might be useful for JM also.

i just went to autozone and got the universal relays they are about 3 bucks a piece i
think and to do the mod you need to of them and plenty of 10gauge wire i think it cost me about $15 to do my mod
Keep in mind that the relay mod done on a canadian truck the way it's stated will have your HI beams on while driving... I dont know where "Deep in the piney woods" is... but if it's in canada there's a good chance it will have DRL's... I think it's mostly us canucks with DRL's but there might be some US trucks with it as well.
Daytime running lights power your hi-beams at a lower voltage for day time driving... but it's enough to switch on a relay! If you get your relay switching power from the existing headlights then your going to turn on the relay with the DRL's ... which will trigger your hi-beams.
it sounds like i am gonna have to finally change out the switch then. the dimmer coil already has a burnt spot on it that i saw oh,,,,,,,,,, about a year ago. being the tight wad that i am i put it back in like it was after a little brush work to try to clean the spot up...
