Need a little audio help please.
i have a kenwood ddx712 headunit, amped door speakers and a 1000 watt ma audio amp powering two kicker subs.
My problem is i had a cheap amp and subs in before and put them in my girlfirneds truck, i bought the new ma audio amp and subs off line and hooked them up EXACTLY like my old ones were and they dont work, amp has power, green light is on not red. the gain is all the way up and the bass control on the head unit is all the way up also and the subs are just brley moving. every now and agian you could hear them kick on but nnnnnooooooo where near how they should. I tried switching amp with a pos one i had and still nothing, i find it VERY hard to beleive both BRAND NEW subs arrived bad...
Can anyone help?
The subs are more then likely 4 ohms each. Possible for them to be 2 ohms. Did you wired them to one channel (bridged) or can you draw us a diagram of how you wired them? If they are 2 ohm ea subs, and you paralelled them, and the amp doesnt support a 1 ohm load, then it would more then likely have an overload light on. But the amplifier should state in the manual what loads it supports.
EDIT: Also, if they are wired in series, and are 4 ohm speakers, then they would be effectively an 8 ohm load, and your amplifier may be rated at 1000 watts, single channel, 2 ohm load. Which usually means 500 watts at a 4 ohm load, and around 250 watts at an 8 ohm load. And it would be half that, if the amp is rated for 1000 watts, 1 ohm load.
