Get a trans temp gauge, too. The stock one is worthless -- just a switch (cold, normal, and TOO FRIGGIN' LATE!!). You might be surprised at how hot it gets. Mine gets up around 195° now that it's over 100°. I have 6.0L cooler coming now. It's over twice the size of stock. And think about going with some trans mods. I really like how the TransGo kit worked out for me, but there are other options as well.

I was only reading this thread to see how long it would take for someone to say some tuner. Good job, DP Tuner or TW chip. Either way these trucks should not be with out one of these with some good tunes on it. NOT A BANKS OR SUPERCHIPS...

Glad to learn and chat on this board with you nice folks. Sounds like you also have a nice rig. I sometimes wished I would have got the 6 speed when I purchased my truck. So far so good with the 4R100.

As long as your trans was kept cool and the fluid changed properly, there's no reason to fear it. Think of it as a wear part, and when the time comes, put in a good one (BTS) and forget about it after that. You can also do what I did and put in a trans kit & upgraded cooler. My 6.0L cooler isn't here yet (it's on its way), but the kit and upgraded cooler are the most important steps in helping the trans live a long life.
