What are you guys doing for exhaust on the y block. Got a 272 and wondering how it will sound. Are you running mufflers, glass pak, or straight pipes off the manifold. Thinking of running it out behind the cab on each side.
I don't have a truck with Y block but have a 56 passenger with 292 Y block . Stock factory instaled duel exaust manifolds with glass pack cherry bombs , great sound ,not to loud not to quiet . If you like it loud , I say , headers and out behind the cab .
I've got a 64 F100 with the 292. It's headers with cheap glasspacks out just in front of the rear wheels. Enhances that great Y- block lope and is louder than my nephew's 65 with the 390 and headers.
I've got a '55 Passenger car with the 272. Duals into red glasspacks (24") and it sounds like heaven. I think the key is to put the glasspacks close to the engine. It is quiet as a mouse at idle, but when you rev up and let off the gas it screams. I'm hoping every engine I have after that one sounds like that!
deyomatic ; you just described my 56 I mentioned above , can't beat that sound can you ? Glad to hear you like that sound to . I had a 55 then 56 in the late 50's, they both sounded that way . Sorry [ PIFD ] you ask about truck and we got of off subject .
No problem at all guys, engine sound is engine sound it does not matter what it's in. Sounds like glass pack's as close to the engine as possiable is the ticket!!
