the c6 in my truck wont shirf into overdrive on its own. it shift from 1 to 2 then doesnt shift into drive until u downshift to 2 again. but it is in drive? sounds confusing but its what its doing. anyone have any suggestions???????

well im finnaly going to change the fluid maybe that will help the stuation a little bit. i hope it does im tired of shifting. any info???

i know it doesnt have overdrive i ment to say third gear. and yes i have a tach. i have to switch gears just as i would if i twas a maual shift and i didnt used to havve to. i have to start with it in 1. then shift into 2. and when i go into drive the transmition downshifts into first. its just getting old haveing to swith gears all the time.

On a C6 tranny if you put the truck in drive and take off it is starting in first. If you put it in second and take off the tranny will start out in second gear. It sounds to me like your tranny is staying in first and not shifting on its own at all. Check the vaccum line going from your manifiold to you vaccum modulator on the tranny. Could also be the valve body.
no vacume lines going to it. there is lines but they just go to nothing on the tranny, just from the manifold to near the tranny and then back to the manifold.

There should be a vacuum line to the transmission.
The C6 has a vacuum modulator that must see manifold vacuum or the transmission will only shift at maximum RPM. The modulator is about 3 inches in diameter. It has a nipple for a vacuum line.
well i guess i need to check it. there are 2 vacume lines that head towards the tranny. ill see where tthey reach to and let you know what happens with it.

i finally changed the fluid and filter on the c6 and it still isnt shifting on its own. not from first to second or second to third.its starting to drive me crazy. i do not have a third gear. one vacume line i hooked back up to the modulator thing and still no change. the fluid was very dark and probably needed changed for along time, it does shift a lot better now. any info on what the probolem is????

Just a thought but have you checked your kickdown linkage and lever to make sure it hasn't bound up. How fast have you gone? If it won't shift into 3rd when you are running down the road at about 60 then you have some other internal problem. If you decide to flush that tranny be prepared to possibly rebuild it. On a badly worn tranny the badly worn & gritty fluid is often the only thing keeping it from slipping. Just a heads up.
beleive it or not i put the vacume line on it and lowen behold i have third gear now. it even shifts on its own now. thanks for the help guys
