DRW tire rotation

I put 4 new Michelin drive tires on my truck yesterday. The steer tires aren't new, but have atleast 3/4 tread. How should I go about rotating them to get maxium life?

We always put the best tires on the steer axle, the the second best tires on the rear inside, and the worst on the outside.
But I'm not sure if most agree with that.

The bad thing about rotating the tires on my truck is, the wheels are front only, and rear only. Meaning, you have to break the tires down and rebalanced to do the rotation. I did this 1 time on my last set of Michelin's and they still lasted 80,000 miles. Most people with duallys don't rotate their tires.

Well, if you wanna get REAL **** about it, you could always have the tires un-mounted and remounted (front and rear rims are different) and put the best tires on the front, but I have just learned it's easier to swap the rights with the lefts. The outer rears will take the most abuse as they rub the ground the most on turns.

I swapped my 2 inner duals out with aluminums so I can rotate all six. That stuff about keeping the duals a match set is silly. Unless you've got an experienced tire guy who puts a mark on each dual so that he can realign them on the lugs properly, they're never truely mated.

Rick, there is no difference in the mold of the aluminums from front to rear. The only difference is which side is polished. I just cleaned the crap out of my non-polished side when I rotate. They look just alright. Maybe someday I'll have them professionally repolished and coated.

I rotate mine every 5,000 miles and rebalance every 10,000. I'll have to find the rotation pattern I use.

Thats why I went with steel wheels all around. Easier to rotate. this is how I do it.
Outside duals go to the front, inside duals go to outside, fronts swap sides and now become inside dual. kind of a modified X pattern if you will.

Ok, so I finally found my tire rotation diagram. This works for all aluminum rims or all steels. It's kinda hard to use it with the steel inners and aluminum outers. Rotate every 5K, balance all 6 every 10K.

EDIT: I can't seem to get it to show up in the post. If someone can figure it out that would be great. Otherwise go to my gallery, misc, last picture.

Here it is Ryan. That is the way I did it the one time I did rotate them.

EDIT: The reason I noticed that the wheels are stamped front and rear, is, I had a friend that has a shop break them down and balanced them and on the ride home the truck didn't feel right. That is when I looked and seen this. I brought my truck back and they changed them again. On the way home it rode like it always did. I don't know, maybe I just thought it rode bad.

Just did. That's interesting. I haven't noticed any difference in mine at all. I looked pretty closely at the rims and the inner and outer molds don't appear to be any different. Just what's stamped and which side is polished. I've been running rear rims on the fronts for the last 11K miles without notice anything. But I'm overdue for a rotation and then the original 'fronts' are going back on the front so I'll see if I notice a difference.

I will take a better look at mine when I get home. I could swear I felt a difference. At the time, I didn't know they were front and back. You may not notice anything different, just might be me.
