I have taken apart the front end of my '66 and I have to say- What a pain that was..LOL. The good thing is, I did it.
The question I have is what type of nuts and bolts do you all recommend for replacement of the old ones? Also, all the little clips that were in place and fell apart, what do you recommend to replace those with or where can I find an entire set of bolts, nuts, and clips if necessary? I just don't want to deal with the pain again and would rather replace them now that I have everything taken apart. Thanks a lot.
May be able to find what you need at a quality hardware, auto body, or auto parts supply shop; unfortunately, don't have any in my area. Seen fastener kits on ebay but don't recall seeing them for the Ford trucks. Pulled the front clip off 65 and yes what a pain in the backside. Checked out couple different sources but found 'Restoration Specialties' was the only company that has all the fender bolts, nuts, 'J' and 'U' clips, tube nuts, etc., needed to reassembe. If the castle nut that inserts inside the rad. support for the grille bracket is rusted, suggest replace. Anyhow, found the company helpful, on occasion sent them an item I was unable to locate and they would return it with either the replacement or item closest to it they carry. Posting link to online catalog.
garunteed nut and bolt kits that will work are on www.broncograveyard.com. they carry the same fender bolts and nuts used on f series. but they sell them for broncos. they are the same. im going to order some sometime when i get around to it. but they have different size kits ranging from 10-30 fasteners and nuts to match them.
Napa carries the body nuts bolts and clips in their Balkamp line. They wont show it by application, you need to bring the old ones to the store with you to match them up.
Thanks for all the responses. I was wondering if I went away with the clips and just used locking nuts or something of that sort would it be better? Also, should I go with Stainless steel or some other material?
Carolina Classics has a stainless front end bolt kit about $80 I think. I bought it and it was complete with all speed nuts, bolts wasters, screws etc...
