I am scratching my head...1979 ford f-250 400ci just bought the truck and the temp got up to 230..have since replaced the clutch fan, thermostat with a 160, water pump and bought a new radiator. The temp still creeped up to 210 is that normal or do they just run a little warm? Thanks, Bob..
When does the heating occur? At road speed, traffic lights, etc.?You need a 190/195 degree thermostat for that engine. It also takes a specific style thermostat.Go to the Rockauto site and look at the thermostats there.A Stant thermostat is what you need.Do you run airconditioning on your truck?Post back with your results and we will try to figure out what is going on.
It slowing rises at road speed. I noticed today when I parked it I let it idle and also held almost 3000rpm and it dropped below 210..seems to run hotter at road speed. Does the 195 thermostat make it run cooler? I assumed the higher temp would make it run warmer?
This engine usually runs between 190/200 degrees going down the road.Or at least mine does. This engine uses a thermostat that is reacting in two ways.It opens when the block coolant reaches temperature, and as it opens,a small bypass plug moves into a flow port in the block to direct ALL the engine coolant to the radiator.Without that bypass button the coolant is in a partial flow to the radiator while a large amount is still flowing in the block uncooled. What about the air conditioning?Fan Shroud?Fan direction?
It does have airconditioning and the fan shroud is in really good condition. When I had the blades off the clutch I cleaned the fan and its in really good shape as well. As you sit in the truck it turns counterclockwise.
What kind of shape is the a/c condenser in?Is it clean on both sides? No trash or folded fins on the core?Just want to be sure it is getting all the air it can over the radiator core. What condition are your inlet and outlet hoses on the radiator in?
Condensor isnt in to bad of shape doesnt look plugged and the fins arent in that bad of shape. The radiator is new and I replaced all the radiator and heater hoses
