I'm looking for some underhood lighting/switch. I currently have a couple of bare bulbs in generic holders and a tilt switch but it's not very pretty or that effective.
just bumping this one back to life, and pulling it from the grave, anyone else have any input?
also great question, i have the same question as well, lets see some pictures, and see what everyone else uses for under hood lighting?, maybe some rope lights around the edge of the hood and around the engine compartment and fire wall? lol lol i am very interested what factory had, and what people have fabbed up on there own, and what unique ideas anyone has cooked up? maybe strobe lights for those night time car shows? nothing can be to crazy, maybe even LED's or Neon?
lets see some practical and some custom lighting, or will this become another dead thread? lets not let this thread sink back into its grave, if you have something to share, lets see it!
I saw one thing in Petersons that I liked, they took el-cheappio LED lights from the dollar store that you can stick on to something, and stuck them on some cheap magnets. Wouldn't be a bad idea, cause then you could take the setup to somewhere else if you needed.
Just a thought
Well that isn't factory on a 73 79 truck, The factory one in mine is just a metal socket with a z looking bracket that screws to the underside of the hood. The hood has a ground strap and then a single wire going to the cowl area no switch it is on when you turn on the dome light. But it would be easy to power it constantly and add a switch that grounds it when the detent is released by opening the hood.
Ford had a real nice under light system back in about 1984, it was mercury switch type but had a 8 foot or so retractable cord on it I always thought was pretty neat. It was mounted at the rear of the hood, and was enclosed in a round plastic case. very clean looking setup. I hadn't thought of it again till I seen this post and now it'll be on my scrap yard hunting list.
