And I don't mean the truck. This is probably way off topic, if it gets deleted so be it. I'm from small town, IL born and raised on a farm. I joined the Marines in 1990. I was an MP and have worked shift work since 1991. So needless to say boredom sets in sometimes. I have smoked for a while. 3 years ago I quit cold turkey. Seriously, I hadn't had a smoke for over 3 years. A few months ago I fell off the wagon. I like to smoke, I enjoy it. I quit again 3 days ago. I'm trying hard, and I can do it, but I just like it. This is kind of a rant, but wondering if anyone around here was like me. I'm a cop, so between the shift work and the adrenaline highs and the boredom lows, cigarettes go a long way. I'm toasted a bit as a write this, and it's taking a lot of willpower not to go to fire up the 7.3 and go to 7-11.
Man do I know the feeling. Been through it several times myself. You're doing better than me 'cause I'm still smoking. I'm even taking the chantix, I'm only taking 1/2 dose and it's working, I don't need to smoke anymore, but I still just want one. I just plain like it. You've gone three days, you want to quit, so hang in there. Find some cloves in the kitchen cabinet and put one in you mouth. Believe it or not, it will curb the urge.
If you're like me,sitting idle will ignite the urge and cig.
Been trying to quit or slow down for a while.
But for me,grab a cold chilly and feel the urge to light up.
I quit for 1 day at a time (that's all it takes) for about 6 mo.
Then "had just 1 " over a cold after a bad day,and that stopped that.
Not preaching, but 1 day at a time.(still working on it myself)
Good luck !
You right Keith this should be moved to the GNA forum, but your a brother in need at the moment. Keep it up you can do this. We will help you do this!! Keep it up brother!!!
Yeah man I know what ya mean. I dipped in high school but didn't start smoking until I joined the Marines. Working the midnight shift in Iraq there was nothing better to do but smoke. I quit cold turkey while in Iraq and was doing great until I got home. I started right back up again. I promised the ol' lady I would quit and I've been having a hell of a time with it. At times I enjoy it and at times I hate it. Being a Corrections Officer I would suck a few down before I went in and then the same thing when I got out. I'm trying to quit again right now, but man is it hard! I'm right there with you!
I smoked for 15 years,I quit 10 years ago cold turkey...you can quit brother but "ONLY" if you really want too....If ya need to chat or something try and send out some PM's,we can help keep your mind thinking gearhead stuff...LOL
I never got to meet my dad's father, died from cigarettes... A few years ago i watched my mom's father laying on his deathbed in the living room of his own house, fading away as he begged for one last cigarette.. That day will never leave my mind.. My parents were heavy smokers, both quit cold turkey when she got pregnant.. I have never had an urge to try one, never will. It's the least i can do, considering what they did for me..
I've smoked off and on nearly all my life. I quit a couples of times but went back.
I enjoy smoking but with the cost and all decided to quit last week so I went to a hypnotist and that worked for about 1 day. Like I said I enjoy it and in my heart of hearts am not ready to quit. When that happens I will just lay them down and walk away. It's something you've really got to want to do. As I write this I drinking my morning coffee and smoking.
I was thinking about the seeds and then I saw your last post. You wanting to quit will do it
and the seeds will keep you occupied. Quit about 13-14 years ago, still on the seeds though. I really am happy to not have the crutch and don't miss it. Be strong, good luck.
Keith, Keep plugging away at it.. I am in the same boat as you. I quite 3 years ago. Or was it last week.. Them dang gas stations sell that stuff and make it to easy to blow it. I have a gas station less than a mile up the street.. When i get the erg, I try to do something else. I am on the gum. It works. Every time i get off of it, I yell at my wife and get into a big Argument about stupid stuff. My temper is out of control.. So i run to the store. Pay for a pack of cigs and smoke like a freight train. Then i go home. The next day i am back on the gum again.. I just can't seem to shake the gum now.
I have a doctors appointment this week. I will ask him about the gantix. I will see if he can hook me up.
I didn't mind this thread on here.. It probably saved him from going to 7-11. I know the feeling. Totally.
Have to look out for the triggers.. Beer? Sitting on the porch? Getting Frustrated?
Try to avoid that stuff.
