Head gaskets???????

Hey guys just curious as to how many people have had hg's replaced more than once?????? If they replace em once is it a good chance that it will happen again?? Just curious cuz the warranty is up in nov 09 and i dont wanna be stuck flipping that bill. Thinking about getting a new 150 instead. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

There is a possibility it will happen again, but if they correct the problem that cause the heads to lift and pop the gaskets then you should be pretty good. My 03 has not had any head gasket problems yet thankfully. One of the main causes for the head gaskets to go is over boosting from stuck turbos, good diesel tech will fix the turbo as well as the gaskets while in there, not so good techs will just redo the gaskets, possibly not even check the heads for flatness which once the gaskets are popped the heads are usually warped and then even with studs in you are almost certain to pop again. Nice flat heads and headstuds installed if you are just running stock tuning you should be pretty much bullet proof for the hg's, egr cooler is another story though.

The blown HGs pressurize the coolant system beyond its design so the EGR cooler could be weakened by the excess pressure. It is prudent but not nessary to replace the cooler if the HGs are blown.
