Oil Filters
Are aftermarket companies doing away w/oil filters w/o caps? Went to change oil in truck yesterday and upon getting filter from NAPA (WIX filter in NAPA pkg.), it had the cap on it. Told clerk I didn't need the cap, so he looked up/found one w/o it. Brought home and discovered it won't work (slightly taller and cap would not go down far enough to screw on). Both the new filter and attached cap are a bit taller than orig. What's up with this? Old set up worked just fine I thought!

NEVER use aftermarket filters on the 6.0. Only use OEM. Fram has a re-packaged Racor which is OEM. I think Purolator has repackaged Racor oil filters also, with the felt washer and proper patent #'s printed on it. "Will-fit" filters can lead to serious engine problems as it can let unfiltered oil around it and also has been known to have pieces of the plastic cap break off and go thru the engine. You don't want that, saving a few pennies on "will-fit" filters will bite you. There was a video somewhere showing these issues around awhile back, I'll see if I can find it. HTH- Tim
