I recently started using the 2 stroke oil, and I have seen some decent gains in mpg. It sure seems to me that the fuel injectors will be getting plenty of lubrication now. I always questioned just how much lubrication the Diesel Kleen was giving them.
I guess the big question is, just how often to use injector cleaner, anyone have any thoughts? (06 F250 PSD CC Lariat)
I think I may have to try this. Sounds like some good results to be had. Think I will continue with the additive as well. Maybe a 50/50 mix as others have done.
I have been following (and refraining from commenting) the threads on two-cycle oil for quite some time. I have never tried it because I chose to add a mix of biodiesel (to achieve a 2% mix) and 8 oz of Stanadyne. They work very well for me - just turned 50k and got 20 mpg on my trip home from work yesterday.
At some point, I must say that I sort of expected folks to begin to suspect that the two-cycle oil was causing issues (like more EGR issues, etc). After several years of following these threads, I can say I have never seen any threads from users of two-cycle oil that have indicated suspected problems caused by its use.
On the flip side, I do not believe the use of two-cycle oil as a fuel additive will improve cetane levels, BTU value of the fuel, OR fuel economy. I just don't see how it can. I also wonder if the quietness is really a good indication of less wear and improved reliability. There are many folks w/ 130k+ on the original injectors that do not use the two stroke oil (some that do not use any additives).
Just some thinking out loud ..............................
I may try it soon - I would like to hear the noise difference. If I keep using more additives though, will there be any room left for the fuel ???
Edit (just as an fyi) - I plan on staying w/ my current biodiesel/stanadyne mix long term. I am a believer in boosting cetane, demulsifying water, preventing gelling, boosting corrosion and soot control, AND adding lubricity - all as a complete package. Not saying that additives will do all that by themselves, but I believe they IMPROVE these functions.
Mark....was waiting for you to chime in....since I value your thoughts and opinions on most 6.0L topics...I'd be very interested in your results and afterthoughts (if you try it)....I'll be monitoring this topic a little longer.
I am using 2-stroke until I build up enough equipment to haul bio diesel in... can't find any in my area. The noise reduction was slight but I did notice a little. Though I didn't expect, it i gained 2-4mpg (same fuel stops, almost the same speeds got to slow down for the construction zone now). I drive about 150 miles a day.
I have been using it for a couple of months now and have noticed the quieter injectors but have not noticed any fuel milage increase or decrease to speak of. I usually squeeze in about 30 gals per fill up so 1 qrt goes in each time. I dont expect that the 2 extra ounces will hurt anything and a gatorade 1 qrt bottle makes an easy measuring device.
The sound difference : it's not as quiet as a DMAX but those are whisper quiet, and no where near as loud as a cummins, but you will tell a difference pretty quick. It took me about 1/2 a tank to really start ot notice. Hopefully it will get quieter as the more full I burn. As of MPG's can't tell yet we haven't went anywhere but work.
The service advisor I spoke with yesterday when I got my truck back from the $7k of repairs says he uses about 1/4qt of tranny fluid in his fuel for a lubricant...anyone try that?
I put transmission fluid once in a while in my 1989 IDI, But remember it turns the fuel red. Put 2 stroke, 1 oz per gallon in a 5 gallon gas can and watch it turn your fuel blue. I always have 10 gallon in the shed for emergency's and its blue for my 6.0 The red fuel could cause problems if for some reason you were checked.

In the old days, some did this... but tranny fluid is a lubricating fluid and not meant to be burned in the cumbustion process... so for this reason alone, I would not use.
I am still reviewing this site and many others to see if I amy try the 2-stroke oil mixture.... but with 150,000 problem free miles on my 2003, I am hesitant to do it.
At least I have now posted, so I will be up to date on this thread.
