They both have "MADE IN USA" on them too BTW. That one lasted maybe 2 months before it started doing the same thing.

Bit the bullet and got a Motorcraft module and Motorcraft stator.

Honest to God the engine starts easier and runs smoother.

Motorcraft all the way!

You're exactly right, this is one piece of equipment where the aftermarket has come up miserably short, i run 12 degrees initial on my FE and without fail anytime i've ran an aftermarket module i've had to retard my timing 6-8 degrees to avoid starter kickback during start-up, with a genuine Motorcraft module this isn't an issue because it retards the timing during start-up like it's supposed to.

Anybody have any experience with something like the Accel kit? I've heard horror stories about Accel fuel injectors leaking. The price on their distributor kit seems almost too good to be true. ~$70

I have no experience with the Accel kit, but the Pertronix cost even less, and I do know it's easy to install and works great.

The Pertronix unit seems to be the way to go. Extremely easy to hook up with no additional parts needed.

The Duraspark set-up had the advantage of should if anything does break down, a replacement part, even if temporary, can be had at any parts store or Ford dealer.

Something that cannot be said for Pertronix. Although I am sure the points could be kept in the glovebox to swap back.

Hmm..., I didn't realize the Pertronix unit was so cheap. I've seen some of their stuff before and it's been really expensive, I guess I've just seen prices on high end ignition boxes and such. I'd be compelled to go with them over Accel just because of all the bad things I've heard about Accel over the years. Thanks for the info!

Bullitt390,

My truck came with a new set of points in the glove box already It wouldn't take too much to keep all the other little parts too, although I might invest in a container of some kind.

One other question. Where the heck is the timing tab supposed to be? I've got a timing light but for the life of me I can't figure out where the timing tab is. I guess it's possible that it's just gone.

if your timing pointer were there you would know.

A quick fix is to bring #1 cylinder to TDC and find 0 on the balancer and either mark the timing cover or make a little wire pointer @ 0 and thne go from there.
