Talking Yet another 'DP Rocks' thread...

Well, I wasnt going to do this. I wasnt going to post yet ANOTHER thread on how impressive the DP Tuner is. But wtf...

Thanks to RR/Clay I got the 6637 installed Tue night and did the DP last night (Wed night is sailboat race night!). Funny, I spent about 2hrs trying to get that dam PCM out the first time to get the code - this time it all but fell out in my hands. Methinks it WANTED that tuner installed! Anyway, got it all done in about 1.5hrs - and about 30m of that was consumed by the neighbor chatting me up (he's got an old restored F150 and he gets the 'retired lonelies' sometimes...).

Took her out for a spin and... WOW! There's another thread going on about some possible DP/ZF-6 issues, and I agree that it didnt kick in until around 17-1800rpm - but when it did...

I believe the expression was "p!ssed of rocket" and I have to agree! The tach shot thru the roof and the truck just flat out took off. I had to keep shifting like crazy just to keep up with it. Needless to say, I wont be bothering to track the MPG with the 75% tank I've got left - this is too much fun!

Decided to bring the truck to work today to check out the 80E on the highway. Impressive how little throttle it required to stay 70-75. EGTs seemed just a tad higher than before, and the boost gauge is definitely higher (interestingly, the AF gauge reads boost LOWER than before, the AF and gauge used to agree dead on at anything over idle - wonder if there's some computer spoofing going on here?). Acceleration from <1500rpm didnt have that same zing that you get until 17-1800, but it doesnt seem to me to be any worse than stock.

The decel tune works great, but I think I'll still do a manual EBV on the stick rather than hunt for the tuner and just use the tuner for the long downhills.

The 4" exhaust will be going in Mon night (scheduling issues, otherwise would have already been done), and next weekend I'll try out the 80T thru the mountains with the camper on.

Permagrin installed, and I haven't even tried the 140 yet...

LOVE IT! On the highway it gets better mpg than my Jeep does, and it's more comfortable to drive. PITA to park compared to the Jeep, tho!

Just watching my $ fly out the door now, and on a firstname basis with the UPS fairy...

PMS definitely settling in. Well, if you are ever out east, look me up. Andrew (87 F-150 I-6) is coming over tomorrow so we can install his 4" exhaust and other goodies - PAA gathering...

I have had mine for almost 2 years, and I don't even try to get accurate MPG's anymore. I don't care. I like the way the truck runs. WHen it needs fuel, I fill it up. It's that simple.

Yes. That is exactly what's going on. It's the same "issue" that is in the other thread regarding the DP-Tuner and ZF-6.

I'm thrilled that you love the way your truck runs now.

Ressurecting this one to ask a question. If necessary I'll start another thread to get more exposure, but giving it a shot here first.

Got my first take at running the DP on the road last weekend hauling the camper thru the mountains. In 80T and 40T pushing it near the top end and getting ready to up-shift, there was something odd going on: it sounded like a "miss" or hesistation, or even like a "coughing" sound coming from what sounded to me like the L side of the engine compartment (intake?). My initial thoughts were turbo surge, but the boost gauge was only running around 10.

I can also get this to happen slightly at the very top end of the 80E.

Any thoughts?

Sounds like mine - turbo surging. I try to feather the pedal when that happens. In my 60T, I don't experience it hardly at all unless I'm really pushing it. Time for a WW install.

Yup. Give Clay another call. A WW is in your future. You could even check out the van turbo in the classifieds. Why not go big?
