As mentioned, I too spent $50 for the electric lock. You simply tie it into you back door locks- so you lock/unlock your gate with your key fob remote.
It was from a vendor mentioned in a post, here on FTE. Don't recall the name, but the post also included great instructions and pics on how to install it. Very well done- the install took me 15 minutes because of that article. Nothing about it is hard, but there would be some head scratching time that adds up without it. For example, it's counter-intuitive, but the electric lock does not connect to the gate's locking portion of the latch mechanism!
NorCalBusa where did you get the power lift gate lock for $50.00.
I bought mine from the "Pop and Lock" company part number PL8250. However, that kit supposedly only works from '99 to '06 and I see you have an '07. I don't see one for '07+ listed on their site but you might contact them to see what they have to offer....
Oooh, one that works the lock mechanism. Doesn't appear that all the pop lock models do for that part number. I searched it and some were different. I just picked up a pace edwards model that locks the latch separately for $29 shipped, but I wonder if it can be modified to work the lock. It's a small detail, but it would seem more OE if it worked the lock so you could unlock it with the key if there was ever the need. Although, I suppose this way it keeps some one from punching in the lock. Maybe I won't worry about it since I have to use my keyless regardless because I don't have it originally and it sets the alarm too.
07 is exactly the same as the older trucks, my bed is from an 07 and it wasn't any different from my 02.
Mine will never be locked as it is way too much of a pita to lock and unlock. I use my gate 10 to 20 times a day. If u want something usefull spend your money on the easydown tailgate assist. I have 4 fords and one gmc and they all have the easydown mod. Just unlatch and let it fall and it does not fall and damage your precious tail gate. Goes down real slow. Go to EZ Down dot com. and order away. They are even available for the 08 09 SD pickups. Every body i show has to have one. We don't need locks in Kansas as we hang or shoot thieves. Survivors we shoot again.
I've read of too many tailgates being stolen before. Here's a 50 cent anti-theft "device". I use this method pictured below.
Hose clamp around the right side. The side with the notch. Point the screw driver slot DOWN as shown in the picture so they cant just use a screwdriver or even a quarter to unscrew it. They have to have the correct size box end wrench to unclamp it. It does not interfere with the movement. And yes, lock your tail gates as well...
thank you.. done!. now to find the power lock for the 08 gate with step.
ps, you DO have to keep the wrench and screwdriver in the truck in case you DO want to pull the tailgate (like when loading a engine or whatever and you need that extra slide in distance..)

That's the problem, there are never any real punishments. I have a friend that is a thief and he keeps getting out. I would not associate with him but we grew up together and drugs got the better of him early in life. If they gave actual punishments instead of a slap on the wrist like they do we'd be a lot better.
The cost for the new tailgate is $3,400.00. It has to be built from all the individual parts as we cannot order a complete tailgate. It is just not available new. This is an insurance job.
That is way expensive, you could buy an entire bed for that price.
I bought this 2008 F250 SD in Massachusetts, they told me right away to always keep it locked, they said 3 were reported stolen that they knew of as soon as the trucks hit the streets.
I said, ok, thanks, sticker says it is $543 dollars or some such, be annoying if you can't get one, but insurance should cover it.
I don't lock it only as it seems stupid to lock the tailgate and my truck is out there wide open in the driveway all day and night, I don't take my guns out of it even, house is never locked either.
If it came to locking the tailgate or risk it missing I'd rather move.
there are some out there
i just sold one off an 08 but without the step for a good price
Now for me im going ot have to do all the locking ideas from here just incase too many slick people walking around the neighborhood lol
