Ok, last winter my iginition switch started dinging after I accidently tried to put my GM key with the resistor in the Aero's ignition. I pulled the plug to the sound box to temporarily fix the issue.
Fast forward to last week. I replaced the ignition switch (the one where you put the keys in) and everything worked fine. I tested by turning the lights on, opening the door, ect with the keys in and out and everything worked fine. I thought I had fixed the problem.
But....
Tonight my wife informs me that all it did was Ding at her when the headlights were on.
I am out of ideas what could cause this. Do I need to replace the actual switch? Could it be the headlight switch? Where should I look next? I don't want to throw parts at it unless it will fix the issue. My wife wants the Ding so she remembers if she left the keys in the ignition or the lights on, so just unpluging the sound box is not an option besides a temp fix.
On my cars with the headlight alarm, it only dings with the headlight on and door open (dome lights on). I know on some brands, it will do this if you turn the key to the OFF position, but I've never seen this on the vintages of cars that I've owned. Did you have to change some wiring when you replaced the lock barrel? You might want to go into it again to make sure everything got connected properly. Otherwise, check your door switches, especially the one on the driver's door.

Thanks for your reply XLT. I did not replace any wiring. Swapping out the barrel consited of putting a small piece of metal under the steering wheel to push on the retaining pin and removing the old one. Their is only one way to slide it in and I made sure the contacts lined up, so I don't know how I could have fubared it.
The issue is that the 'ding' will 'ding' constantly while driving down the road, doors are shut (no door ajar light or interior lights on) with the headlights on. Once the headlights are off, the Dinging stops.
If I get a chance today, I will pull the headlight switch and see if it is starting to overheat causing the issue. But besides the door switch, I am not sure where to look.
