I just bought these headers. Summit SUM-G9032 - Summit Performance® Headers – SummitRacing.com Any tips or tricks on installation would be appreciated. Can the collectors be clamped on instead of welded? If anyone has these headers, let me know what you think about them. Thanks.
Started on it today. I got the drivers side in. Had to knotch the transmission crossmember for clearance. The shift linkage seems like its going to be in the way. Any suggestions on that? Got fed up with the passengers side. Cant get it in from top or bottom. Don't know what to try next.
I have never had to remove anything on an FE engine to install headers. The passenger side goes in from the top and the driver side goes in from the bottom.
It's replacing a starter that is a pain with an FE and headers.
Thanks jsutton for the link. It restores hope. Im usually not one to give up but being awake for about 30 hours had my stress level at its limit. Have My daughters birthday party today but hopefully I can find the time to get this done. What do I need to do about clearing the shift linkage? Ill keep you posted and thanks again.
Mine hit the collector flange, It would go into drive, but I could never get it to 1st or 2nd. So I eventually swapped out and put a floor shifter in it, a cable operated B&M Z-gate. Plus it looks cooler! LOL
I had the same problem and I ended up having to install a B&M floor shifter (Great Excuse!).
I just couldnt make the stock shifter work. I like having the floor shifter anyway.
I kept messing with the stock shifting linkage slipping and I couldnt get it in gear, and one day I almost had the truck roll over me and I said F%$# This! Went to AZ and never looked back. Its been 10 years now and I still Love it!
Well i got it into drive but thats it. Had to grind on the linkage some for it to clear. Put some glass packs on it and they sound like *****. Looks like im gonna be running straight pipes.
