Complete Overhaul
92 XLT 5.8 351 Windsor
Im talking motor, tranny, rearend, everything.
Leave stock except a minor lift and tires.
Im in need of it I got almost 270,000 miles and everything is still stock.
Its a Daily Driver but close (within 30 Miles round trip)
Thanks for any imputs
Yea im looking at the major stuff to replace before it gives out.
Motor and Tranny etc but whatever else will need replacing.
Or will I just be better off getting another bronco with alot less miles?
I have a little less than 5k and I cant afford to get a truck to make payments.
Thats what im asking for.
But I aint gittin rid her of cuz one day I might have enough money to fix er up.
The tranny is going to be $3k by itself.
Seriously though - why would you want to rebuild it if it's working fine? Keep driving it, save your money, and buy something else when the one you have is worn out.
I had no idea it cost quite that much.
Yea its runnin great but every one keeps tellin me I need to do somethin before it craps out on me. I would like to have another bronco but every one I look at is in about the same shape (miles) and I dont want another brand (ford Is to Good to Me)
How long do the 351 windsors usually last anyway, 270,000 is alot. And Ive put about 2000 on it in the last 3 months...
Thanks again andym
I appreciate the input.
if your worried about it, get a wreckingyard 5.8 thats complete. get an engine stand and start tearing it down and get it rebuilt and have it ready so when this motor craps you can swap motor for motor.
as for the tranny keeping up on the fluid/filter changes is important, you could probably do the same with a wrecking yard tranny and have it rebuilt when money and time provide and wait or swap out at your lesure.
Too many variable and unknowns to predict how long your engine will last. Do a compression check on the engine, change fluids in engine, tranny, dif. Don't forget to check for signs of wear when changing fluids.
Other than that, if all is well then live and let live.
I have just recently aquired a 94 xlt in good condition, but the braking system has been let go, so it will be completely replaced. I am slowly and methodically going over it and replacing anything that even looks questionable.
There is no shortage of things to spend our hard earned bucks on....save it for an upgrade or a new set up fuzzy dice.
I would do the same really, if I were you. You obviously want a mechanically top notch truck, so start with the visibly worn parts and then upgrade as you see fit.
All the best with your Bronco!
