Problem with installing after market brake control

I tried to hook up my brake control a few days before i went on a camping trip and found out it did not work do to ford not hooking up the wire harness corretly. Ford never installed a fuse for the hot wire and there was no brake signal coming from the wire harness. Had to take to a rv dealer to have it done like i hade never had any wires at all. trying to get ford to pay me back will find out in a couple of days. My ford did come with the tow package.

Sounds like your RV place ripped you off like the one near me tryed to do. I wanted a hot wire to charge my trailer battery and they said that the system on my truck didnt allow that and they would have to install a whole new 7 pin wireing harness but i already had the tow pack. Well i come on here and someone confirmed that all i needed to do was install the relay and fuse that was in the glove box and it would function just fine and it did. Take a look in your glove box for a bag with a harness, relay and some other bits. The parts you needed were in there.

Dont know about the 09's but my experience with my 96 98 2000 2001 2003 2005 2008 was to hook up the factory supplied brake controller harness and install a fuse to complete the circuit. Everything was always in my glove box usually took about 5 min to complete and your good to go. Maybe the 09's are different.

I got everything from what was in the glove box, and installed the relays i was still not getting any power to the brake control and still had not brake signal from the pigtale. The manual said there should be a fuse under the hood at spot 17 but there was no fuse or wireing for that spot. Have a "09" . All he hade to do is get a hot wire then patch into other wire from under the dash. It works great, and had three rv deales look at it and they said the same thing. I think thay just forgot to connect it at the factory.

I think Ford must have forgot to hook it up at the factory. Did all that that was in the glove box and still did not work. Had three rv dealers check it and they all said the same thing that i was getting no power or brake signal either. Looked in the owners manual and said there should be a fuse in the 17 spot but there was no fuse or wiring for it.

Just found out by FORD that when they say tow pakage they mean everything but the wiring for the brake control if you have a truck with the 4.6 2v engine and the 4x2. thats a kick in the *****!!!!!!

Thats strange. As the trailer tow pack includes a 7 pin harness. Why would they supply it and not connect it?

I'm going back to the ford dealer where i got it and, 1 see way it was not hooked up and2 way did they not tell me that at the time of my purchase. Says nothing on the window price sticker about not being wired fore a brake control. If you have a tow pakage you should have a brake control wired up.

I still think your RV place's tryed to do the same as the RV place i went to to be honest. Im not certain but if you can have the Ford TBC on the XL then im almost certain you will have wireing from the front of the truck to the 7 pin harness at the rear. There's no reason why they wouldnt have had that wired up and if they didnt you should have got them to sort it out. So just to get this straight. You connected your brake controller into the wireing harness where the factory TBC normally goes and you connected the relay and the fuse and you still have no power to your brakes and 12v power?

Ford gave me the manufacturing report of what is all on my truck and it stated there is no wiring for a brake control for this truck, but i have there seven wire plug on the back of it. The fuses i put in is for charging the rv battery. They gave me two fuses "relays". Did you have to put a fuse in the #17 spot in the fuse box under ther hood?

Mine has the fuse in the #17 slot, however I have the 4.6 3 valve engine.
