As an alternative to the classical Hutch mod, Clay with Riffraff Diesel (one of the sponsors in the 7.3 forum) is coming out with a different approach to this mod which involves installing an intank pump to put these quick connect fittings under pressure. This intank pump will also act as a booster pump for the stocker. This concept has been proven to be effective by Kwikkordead (Dan) who took this approach several years ago and has had zero trouble from his application. He has been working with Clay in developing this new kit, and it is scheduled to be ready around the end of this month..
My truck ran all the way to the station where I put in 47 gallons of fuel

The in-tank system works. No doubt about it. Here is the problem I see. When I did the classic hutch mod, I pulled out all the filters. That leaves a clear path to the pump which is external. In between, there is a filter that is external. IF the same thing happens to me again like it did, I would do the same thing again. Drop the filter, install a new one and proceed. Should the pump fail, same thing. With the internal setup, you have to drop the tank. Usually breakdowns occur in the middle of BFE. Last time I had an external pump failure, I pulled over and had someone pick me up. Bought a new pump, installed it and drove off. I didn't have to pull the tank off.

On my F-250 I only cut the vent tube and it works perfect.
The reason that the nozzle starts clicking off is because when the diesel reaches the vent tube it is forced up through it and onto the end of the nozzle which trips the sensor on the end of the nozzle and causes it to shut off.
When you cut the vent tube off as close as possible to the top of the tank, no diesel will be forced up through it until the tank is completely full.

Here is a before and after pic of the vent and fill tubes inside the Superduty tank. The Excursion tank should be similiar.

Just to throw in my two cents. I have done the Harpon on my 2000 7.3 Excursion Ltd. A bit of work but worth it. That skid plate/shield is heavy. On my last fill up I got 47.502 gallons in it. It helps to be on a slight angle away from the pump (nozzle side up) Pass side down. I have some photos but would have to do some looking.
