Transmission Question
I just bought a 99' f-250, 7.3, automatic with 162,000 miles on it! It has the edge chip and the programer and all that happy stuff! Runs great!
But i hear people have problems with these transmissions so i would like to know what i can do to prolong the life of the transmission? And this is my first powerstroke so if there is anything else that i might need to know to keep my truck running great please tell me i guess! Thanks

...and once you put in the kit, ditch the Edge and get custom tunes to match the mod'ed trans. You'll be AMAZED at the difference.
EDIT: Also look at upgraded cooling, like a 6.0 trans cooler or Tru-Cool add-on. Heat is your enemy...

I did want to put a trans temp gauge in it. So probably do that this weekend! Does the transmission have to come out for those mods? And what r we talking for a price? Also what is a good brand of cold air intake for a 7.3?

The best thing to do is add a shift kit and TC. That is assuming the clutches are still in good shape. This setup has reliably held several trucks over 400HP for years. If you just want to help it as cheap as possible, just get a Transgo shift kit.

No need to remove the tranny for the Transgo kit. Drop the pan, remove the valve body and replace some springs, put the vb back on, replace pan and fill. It's not hard at all, and several of us have done it, so we can walk you through the upgrade.

Where might i find one of these transgo shift kits? And is this really what i want to get? Will it hold the edge products?

If you own an Early '99 and not a '99.5 you may not have an Oil-To-Air (OTA) cooler built into the radiator. Once you have your trans temp guage you may want to add an OTA cooler and possibly a 6.0L tranny cooler to replace your stock 9 row trans cooler, depending on your trans temps.

The cooler in the radiator is an OTW (oil to water.) The cooler out front that sits in air is an OTA cooler.

I went to buy a trans temp gauge last night and they had two different ones that went to different temps! What is the highest temp i should need for trans temp? And what is a high EGT temp also? I don't know what the highs are for these temps!
What is a ball park price for a transgo shift kit for a 4r100?
Cause i think the people before me took care of the trans. So i think it might be worth the kit! I think is shifts good! But it's getting a trans full flush tomorrow night so we'll see what happens there!

250 on the tranny and 1250 on the EGT's are around the redline area, so that should give you an idea on what temp range.
Maybe our new sponsor will PM you a price on a transgo kit. I'm beginning to think DSTRBD might be an appropriate name since his site only lists a Transgo kit for the dirtymax.
I can tell you do not spend one red cent at Oregon Performance transmission. No reason to deal with idiots. If our new sponsor can't hook you up with a transgo, we have others that can.
