Are the motor mounts on a 6.9 the same as a 7.3?
'85 F350 with 6.9/T19...will a 7.3 bolt in my truck? I know the bellhousing will bolt up...but what about starters, motor mounts, flywheel? are they the same?
The heads are different, but will 7.3 exhaust manifolds bolt to a 6.9 head?
I realize the topic of "6.9 versus 7.3" or "6.9/7.3 differences" is widely discussed...but the search feature has been brining up some posts that you really have to "read between the lines" to gain info...
Motor mounts and starter and flywheel will all bolt as does alt fuelfilter bracket power steering and air, but I have never changed the ex manifolds. The 7.3 manifolds bolts to the 6.9 pipes though so I'm sure there the same. Your glow plugs are different the 6.9 spade style will work in the 7.3 or you can change the system.
It's good to have a list of all the same components. It sure makes research with the search feature easier!
While on the topic of motor mounts...this is not an IDI engine...but does the '95-'97 powerstroke 7.3 share the same motor mounts? The bellhousing pattern is the same. What about flywheel and starter?
I am almost positive it will bolt in completely including motor mounts, are you considering this swap????? Do you realize how much of a wiring nightmare this is going to be, trying to completely wire a non computerized truck for an engine that might as well be a computer??
I do realize it would be a real mess...and it would get worse every day.
No-i'm not really considering the swap - i love the simplicity of the IDI's.
I just was curious if anyone knew...just trying to compile an options list of bolt-in modifications for the truck...obviously the PSD is a last resort. Some members have proven their IDI's to be better than the first generation PSD's anyways...reliabilty, durability, cheap, and simple to service!
