Hey guys, I've been calculating my fuel mileage and have been seeing some low numbers. I've been getting about 13 around town and on the highway. I just changed all my filters 500 miles ago, but have yet to see an incease. Any ideas on how to get mpg's up. Truck seems to be running great. She's an 2004, and i hear there is a reflash for this issue. Thanks for the help.
I have an 04, and god I'd be happy to get 13 mpg in town. my truck has every mod to get better mileage, and I did go fron 10 mpg to 11.5 mpg. Still crap, and will never recoupe the money at this rate.....lol
If you are running true city driving with lots of stop and go traffic i could see where your only getting 13 mpg. I get about 15 mpg back and forth to work and thats only 2 lights to stop at and the rest is 60 mph driving, the trip is only 15 miles one way. Strictly highway i get about 18mpg and towing the 8000lb camper gets around 11-12 mpg. My truck is an 04 stock except a banks intake and air filter.
I don't know where some people driving the 6.0 get 18 mpg plus. My 02, and 07 Dodges got over 20 mpg on HWY and 16 plus in town. I could plull my 5th wheel and boat trailer at same time and still get 13 mpg.
I've owned Ford trucks years ago, but this is my first Ford diesel. I've yet to see 14 mpg. I'm losing about $45.00 per fuel stop with the 6.0. I can get about 325-350 miles per tank. Although my Dodges had 34 gal tanks vs this 29 gal tank. I would always get a minimum of 600 miles before my fuel light came on, and have got close to 800 on a tank.
I keep reading on here about better mileage, and I've contacted ATS Diesel to work some majic. Got more power, but no better mileage......New ATS Turbo, New ATS tuner, AFE cold/ram air intake, Banks exhaust, Banks intercooler.
I haven't towed any trailer with my Ford. Its slow off the start. Ole Dodges would smoke the tire if you floored them. No way with this truck, has to build up first, but once she's moving man she rips. Will break the tires loose when she shifts to second.
I would be in love if it pulled off the line and at least got 15 mpg. I will keep working my issues. This truck has so many better features than my Dodges did. I guess no truck or brand has it all.
I've only had my truck 2 months but here are my numbers. Driving in traffic in the Birmingham suburbs, a lot of hills, 12 mpg. On the highway unloaded in the hills on I-65 at 70mph-16.2, 65mph 17.2 to 18.2. Pulling my 12.5k pound 13' tall 5th wheel, just over 11mpg running about 65 through the hills of Alabama on I-65.
Best I've done on my '05 is 21.7 on a long highway trip unloaded...just me and a tank of fuel. I average about 15 around town and regularly see 19 on interstate.
Last tank I got 468 miles and it took 25 gallons to fill it back up to the top of the filler neck.
I sold a stock 04 F250 6.0 with 285's on it to my dad. He gets around 19 on the highway empty driving 70 with the cruise on. I now have an 05 with 35's. My best tank with me, two boys, three dirt bikes 65mph cruise set is 15. It amazes me that a diesel sucks so much more fuel with bigger tires. My F150's always dropped about 2MPG with 35's. But I expected more from a truck with this much power. I usually get 12 to 13mpg 50/50 city/highway. I always fill from the same pump at the same station and fill until I see the fuel in the filler neck. I love the poeple who get 17 pulling 10K pounds. I would like to fill their truck and calculate their mileage. Might suprise them a little.
Yeah, me too. When I'm pulling my 5th wheel I get around 11. I'd love to do what they're doing and get the same mileage with 12k behind me as I do empty. I made my usual run to Tennessee yesterday. I use the overhead computer and have always found it pretty accurate when I compare it to doing it on the calculator. I run 65mph on the cruise. I got 18.0 on the way up and driving around there. I reset it when I got up to speed on the interstate on the way home and got 19.0 all the way to the driveway. It is a very hilly drive and I think my truck would get 20mpg on level ground if any existed.
I do the same thing. I always fill up at the local Flying J at the same pump and to the top of the filler neck.
I bought fuel at the local Walmart this time. It was .20/gal cheaper. That's enough to make me try it. There were several trucks waiting in line so I guess they sell a lot of diesel. Ran it over 400 miles and seems to be fine. I always use the BP but its gone up too much. Now I'm shopping for diesel just like I do unleaded.
