Hey, how do I get the window crank to release so it can be removed...It looks like there is a pin in there but I thought I would check before I tried to bang it out. I am sure this has been asked a bunch but an tricks would help.
Also, how easy is it to get these doors out of shape, that is off from lining up....the reason I ask is because we were taking stuff down last night and before the passenger door seemed to line up good when it was shut, but after he took the door handles and catches off it was like it tried to over lap the cab when it was closed.(sort of worried me) thought this might have happened to some one. thanks
Yes you need to pull back the escuthen and push out the pin. Then the handle comes right off. If you have trouble knocking the pin out (use a nail set and ball peen hammer) try knocking it out from the other side - sometimes one end of th epin gets flaired.
If the hinges are mounted correctly and tight, the door shouldnot move at all.
Check the front bottom corner of the door opening, if you have weak metal in that area the door will shift. Other than that, like Julie said, the doors shouldn't move if their tight. They don't move much even if the hinges are loose. To align the doors you have to pry on them with a wooden block at different locations. I've had to jack the corners of the door openings to make them fit decent so a little work on the door handles shouldn't have done anything to them.
Yea, what you mentioned about the metal is what I was thinking, cause they had some trouble getting the arm rest off and may have pushed on the door......I thought it may be weak down there and gave a little but I wasn't going to say that in fear of sounding stupid, but that is what has happened I think.
I mean its not bad its just a little off from what it was....but will need fixed now
"They" pushed on the door. "We" try to take care of customers cars like it was our own. If we damage something we have to pay to repair, fix, replace, whatever.
Well now, isn't it amazing how much we learn with a little slip of the key.
OK in your last post you mentioned "taking off the armrest" and that's an important piece of info - let me tell you why. Im assuming we are talking about your 51 F3, right?
Well the only trucks that had arm rests in 1951 were the "Five Star 'Extra' Cabs." They had a modified door on them that alowed not only for the installation of the arm rest, but had a 2 piece decorative panel installed on the interior of the door.
The upper piece of that panel was metal and fit over the door and window handles. The lower part (about 75% of the panel) was a masonite or fabric covered masonite sheet that slid down in a piece of angle type trim molding that ran the heigth of the door below the metal panel - front and back, and all along the bottom.
It's very possible that it is one of these two pieces that is now loose has shifted and given the appearence of the door moving.
Of course the arm rests could have just been thrown on by a PO and this is meaningless, but it's something to look for!
Do you by any chance have stainless wind wings, a stainless trim around the windshield, holes in the hood for three hood spears, the interior door panels, or a nice thick soft seat?
PS Edit note: I found a picture of your interior in your gallery and you don't have "Extra Cab" doors or panels. So, "never mind." Looks like a nice truck though!
Yea, I don't know really whats going on with most of this truck, the best I can figure it is pieces of all kinds of stuff, but mostly galaxie parts.....I might take a pic of what the door is doing and see if yall have suggestions or what is best to do.
Hey, by the way I seen a guy putting patch panels on a fender on here earlier, where do you get those, and would they have them for my fender seeing as mine is an f3? Or would fixin the f3 fenders and putting f1 fenders on the back look stupid....what yall think?
My neighbor has F-2/F-6 fenders on his '51 F-1 and they don't look too bad. He recently installed 17" wheels and it has closed up the gap in his front fenders. The main concideration when using the F-1 or F-2/F-3 rear fenders is the width of the fenders. The F-1 rear fenders have a smaller wheel opening but they are also wider than the larger models' rear fenders. If you're going to install a F-1 box you'll have to go with F-1 fenders.
