Sorry Tees- no pictures, my wife had the digital camera in her purse when she left for work.
So far so good! We started at 8 this morning. Drained the oil and the radiator. Disconnected the exhaust. (hardest part, we had to drill out 2 of the bolts just to get them to snap off) Took off the hood (which we later put back on since we're not done), took off the fan and some of the pullies. Disconnected the transmission. Took off the starter. Took out the radiator. Took off the carb. Disconnected the motor mounts!
As of right now, we have a chain around the engine- it's ready to be lifted out!
BUT! I have to wait til next Sunday to work on her! Doh! I gotta wait for my new exhaust manifold bolts to come in and need to put the pullies on the new 390.
This truck has (had?) so much grease, oil, dirt, ect on the engine, it's terrible, never seen an engine so fility.
All in all- I'll be honest- It's not really hard work, it's just VERY VERY time consuming. Hardest part was drilling out the rusted exhaust bolts.
It's a lot of fun and I got to bond with my wife's, mom's boyfriend quite a bit. I've learned a lot today. Thanks Chuck!
Tees- I will get some pictures for ya! I'll snap some here during the week of what I've got done. I'll get some pics of my new engine, too. I'll also have my wife snap some while we're working on it Sunday as well. How's that sound?
edit- Halifax, huh? If you wanna stop by and hang out, feel free! We'll get the grill going and have some brews! haha j/k!
Remove the nose on the truck, it makes pulling the engine much easier. Ditch the manifolds and run some headers, your 390 will thank for it in the power and economy department.
